Richard D. Short is a registered civil engineer and geotechnical engineer with over 40 years experience in the field of geotechnical engineering. on a wide range of public works and private projects.

Mr. Short has a wide range of geotechnical engineering experience on private and public works projects in such areas as, Deep Foundations, Ground Improvement, Earth Reinforcement, Pavements, and Landslide Repair, Prevention and Earth Retention.

He has construction oversight and troubleshooting experience on more than 4,000 projects overcoming such conditions as wet weather, unexpected soil conditions, unexpected obstructions or design changes.

Throughout his career, Mr. Short has been on the forefront of geotechnical engineering practices.  His innovative and creative accomplishments include his early recognition of the benefits of geotextile fabrics in ground stabilization.  He was the first consultant to use Mirafi geotextile fabric in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid 1970's.  He was instrumental in obtaining Caltrans approval of the tubex screw pile as an alternative pile type in 1996.  Mr. Short pioneered the use of the drop weight rapid pile load test method to save time and costs.  As manager of the Blackhawk Geologic Hazard Abatement District in 2005, he created a research program and developed and patented the Plate Pile slope reinforcement method which drastically reduced the cost of slope stabilization.

Mr. Short has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada, 1966; a Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, 1972 and recently retired as a lecturer from U.C. Berkeley where he taught for 10 years.

Dick Short has been the recipient of numerous service awards throughout his career the most recent of which was awarded in 2010 when he was honored with a Distinguished Service Award for a Life Time of Leadership and Engineering from the Deep Foundations Institute.
